Chapter 7

Alice

“I don’t know what I missed most, you or your cooking.” Royce says before he kisses me again. We made love so many times last night and this morning. We took a break, so I could make him breakfast, but we somehow found ourselves back in bed. I guess we’re making up for all the missed years.

He told me a little about his captivity, but I couldn’t hear much before I started balling. Royce held me as I cried. I filled in more about our lives while he was gone, helping him prep for his meeting with Rowan later today. I want it to go smoothly, but have no idea how she’ll react. Hopefully happy to have a Dad.

I called in sick for the rest of the week, although with Royce back now I have even more of a reason to quit. I want us to be a family, and don’t want to be separated from him again.

“Well, you don’t have to miss either anymore,” I remind him.

“Damn straight,” he growls, moving slowly down my body.

“Rowan makes really good cookies.”

“I can’t wait to try them.” He smiles up at me, and I cup his check. He grabs my hand and looks at my ring.

“We need to get married,” he says still looking at it before crawling up my body to lay beside me.

“I started planning before I got the news you died. I kept all my wedding ideas, and I know Ruth would love to help.” I cuddle into him.

“No, tomorrow we are going to the courthouse,” he grunts out.

I pull back to look at him, a little shocked. “Royce, I want a wedding, not just a courthouse marriage.”

“No way, Alice. I need to marry you as soon as possible.”

“I’m sure between Ruth and I we can plan one fast. It’s not like we have a lot of people to invite,” I try to reason with him.

He shakes his head. He’s about to say something when we hear a knock on the front door. I look at the clock, its ten-thirty in the morning.

“The Commander?” Royce asks.

“No, I told them I would call when I was ready for them to bring Rowan over. I don’t know who that could be.”

Royce gets up and throws on a pair of pants. “I’ll get rid of whoever it is. You stay in bed and get use to the courthouse wedding that’s happening tomorrow.”

“Royce, I want a real wedding!” I yell as he walks out of the bedroom. I lay back down wondering if I can convince him to wait a week, that way I can have some say in our wedding.

Suddenly I hear yelling, and a crash. I jump out of bed, pull on a robe and run downstairs. I stop short when I see that Royce has Jeff, my boss, by the neck with his feet dangling off the ground.

“You repeat those words and I’ll kill you,” Royce growls in Jeff’s face which is turning purple.

“Royce! Let him go!” I run to him, tugging on his arm.
